In this time of stay-at-home orders, many of us have rediscovered our kitchens. From sourdough to sauces, folx are baking and cooking more than ever. But once you’ve created that beautiful loaf of banana bread or the perfect vegan lasagna, there is often no friends or family to share it with. In an effort to combat this, Trans* Lounge is joining forces with the Center’s Volunteer Resources to create a unique cooking AND dining experience designed to bring back that feeling of CHOSEN family dinner. Join us for our new monthly group; TRANSforming Your Kitchen: A Chosen Family Dinner.
In this casual and oh so social 90-minute virtual gathering, you will get together with other Trans* Lounge foodies to create delicious, easily accessible and easy to prepare meals in your own kitchen. We will provide you with a list of ingredients well in advance of the class so you can follow along at home and prepare an amazing dish along with the rest of the class. And if you do not have access to the ingredients needed, the Center can provide you with a recipe kit with everything necessary to join in the fun. The best part is once we have created our yummy masterpieces, the rest of the class time will be spent sharing social space and enjoying not only a delicious meal together but the company of your Trans* Lounge family. Imagine sitting in the kitchen engaged in great conversation with great friends in a purely social space.
Another fun and interactive aspect of this class is that folks can also share their recipes and specialties during the dinner portion of the class. We will keep track of all submitted recipes and include them in a special Google Doc especially for Trans* Lounge members. It’s our very own Trans* Lounge Cookbook that you can access at translounge.org/cookbook!
Led by Kimberly Fisher (she/her); who spent 6 years in the food service industry working as the manager of Blue Chair Bakery, a prep cook at Sidecar Doughnuts, and a cupcake slinger at Sprinkles and Sam Miller (they/them) a new quarantine cook who has really punched up their cooking skills since the pandemic, this fun and casual offering is a wonderful way to expand your culinary talents while keeping connected with your Trans* Lounge family in a very special way.
Whether you are a whiz in the kitchen or just starting out, TRANSforming Your Kitchen: A Chosen Family Dinner will combine your joy of cooking with that one and only Trans* Lounge Chosen Family vibe to provide a very uniquely personal and intimate online experience.
UPCOMING MEETING DATES:
Kimberly Fisher (she/her) is a former Center employee who prior to her time at the Center, jumped from industry to industry, including a 6-year stint in the food service industry working as the manager of Blue Chair Bakery, a prep cook at Sidecar Doughnuts, a cupcake slinger at Sprinkles, and an associate at a local juice bar.
Kimberly loves to cook and bake and specializes in preparing vegan staples from scratch and creating meals to cook outdoors while camping.
Sam Miller (they/them) has been an employee of the Center’s Volunteer Resources team since June of 2019 and before that was a Center volunteer. When they aren’t working or cooking,
Sam is usually trying to keep their dog and two cats away from human food.
